U.S.: Organic Fertilizer or Toxic Sewage?

13/01/2010

Toxic municipal sewage are being irrigated agricultural land on thousands across the United States, sold in garden stores, CCOM falsely labeled organic fertilizer, thus contaminating the land, crops, pastures and gardens. Therefore OCA is campaigning against the wastewater industry.

"... Blackwater should not be scattered over the earth as its content is varied and changing all the time, made it impossible to analyze it to establish its safety. These black water waste created in the attempt to separate clean water from contaminants. The water should be cleaned by removing a large amount of pollutants, this is the purpose of drainage or sewerage system, to receive sewage. The more efficient the attempt to clean sewage is sewage or waste will get much more toxic. Again, this is what should be done, which means that a very efficient processing creates a mixture so thick and toxic and dangerous. Indeed, given the presence of toxic materials in these waters on a large scale, it is understood why it is appropriately classified as hazardous waste "

Organic Consumers Association was born of a massive campaign in 1998 called "SOS-Save Organic Standards," (Help, Save Organic Standards), led by Ronnie Cummins and a powerful alliance of organic activists. SOS successfully mobilized hundreds of thousands of organic consumers to stop corporate agribusiness to take over the organic food and agricultural sector, nuclear promoters, industry wastewater, Monsanto and the Department of Agriculture of the United States (USDA acronym in English) to degrade organic standards and open doors to corporate interests on food and organic agriculture. After five months of controversy and pressure from activists, USDA accepted the ban on genetically engineered crops, irradiated foods and municipal sewage organic production.

Unfortunately, while genetically modified organisms (GMOs), irradiated foods and raw sewage were banned in the National Organic Standards, these have quickly become the norm in industrial agriculture and food of the conventional process. If you visit the site of Wastewater OCA OCA understand why you are concerned and alarmed by the use of such sewage and why we are determined to replace these practices by real sewage manure. OCA educate and mobilize its national network and will call upon state and federal government to classify these as hazardous waste sewage, to prohibit its application to agricultural land and to stop companies selling these organic wastewater as fertilizer. As an alternative to these toxic sewage and chemical fertilizers, OCA is determined to make compost fertilizers, safe, productive and sequestration of CO2 (causing climate problems) are the norm in U.S. agriculture and global and not just a green alternative.
